Frances Mildred is a New York City architectural and interior design practice founded by Brian Papa and Lauren MacCuaig.
Over a long working relationship, our founders have discovered and developed a deep mutual respect for their complementary backgrounds, inspiring in one another and in their team an intense, shared desire to make things better, with an emphasis on making. This aspirational notion informs and suffuses every aspect of our work: from initial ideas and client conversations to materials and palette. Everything is something made.
Our practice exists to serve our clients. Our highest ambition is to interpret and re-imagine the basic requirements and desires that each client brings to each project using an intensely collaborative process, one that involves a wide range of partners and makers. Through it all, we strive to design for life: to create a long-lived, natural, and organic new reality that considers the ways in which our projects exist, wear, age, and patina over time.
After many years of successful builds, we continue to rely upon our collaborators—both within our office and with partners and contractors outside it. These relationships are based upon a proven confluence of quality, aesthetic, sustainability, and a deeply felt desire to design for life.
